Upper Midwest Highlights and Must-Sees

The Upper Midwest is Known For…

To sum it up the Upper Midwest consists of: Delicious food. Nice people. Purple Rain. Beer. And, lakes.

But really, the Midwest has lots to offer for experiences. With a wide array of attractions, enough delicious food there’s always something to sooth your appetite and wash it down with a mug of beer. And if you don’t know what to do or see, just ask one of our friendly citizens.

Disclaimer: I know there’s more great things about the Midwest. These are just a few highlights for those of you who have never experienced our great region.

Upper Midwest Attractions

Upper Midwest Map

The Midwest is the home of The Great Lakes. Specifically in the Upper Midwest we have Lake Superior, who’s waters extend into Canada and appear to have no end. Visiting Duluth or Superior are great spots to take it all in. Lake Michigan separates Wisconsin and, you guessed it, Michigan, which extends all the way down to Chicago, Illinois. Lake Michigan has a great great coastal d

rive that reminds you of being in California. If you enjoy wine, I recommend visiting Door County which is the home of 20+ wineries. If you prefer a busy nightlife, city scene, then head to Chicago in the summer for a day at the beach and the club at night. There’s many great spots in between if you want to make into a four day road trip with your fav. gals too.

While on the topic of road tripping with your gal pals, another great past time is to visit the one and only Mall of Americaaaa (I’m singing that in my head as I type). The only way I know how to explain Mall of America, or MOA us regulars like to call it, is it’s like Amazon with everything at your finger tips. Whatever you may need, MOA has it. Not only shopping, but great restaurants, comedy clubs, amusement rides and a place to sleep all in ONE place!

The Upper Midwest is also the home of the beginning of the Mississippi River, or as we like to call it Ol’ Miss. She flows from Lake Itasca near Bemijidi, MN all the way down the United States spilling into the Gulf of Mexico. Ol’ Miss winds through a river valley of tall bluffs and river towns that have something for everybody from interesting shops, cheese, pie and so much beer to drink.

FOOOOOD & Beer!

The Upper Midwest is know for a few great delicacies: cheese and beer – and they’re even better together!

Wisconsin, the Cheesehead state, has more kinds of cheddar cheese than I can count and they’re all delicious! Wisconsin takes so much pride in their cheese, Packer fans wear ridiculous cheese hats. Toreally get a taste of the Wisconsin cheese I would recommend The Cheese Tour which allows visitors to pick a specific region to expose their palettes to.

What would good cheese be without the beer?

Upper Midwest BreweriesWisconsin is the home to many micro breweries including the ever so popular New Glarus – only available in Wisconsin! We have also homed many larger brands such as Leinenkugels in Chippewa Falls, WI. The history of these sites is remarkable, I definitely recommend checking them both out!

Prince Tribute in the Upper Midwest

Purple Rain, Puuurple Raaaain.

Ah! The sweet, sweet sound of Prince. Remember hearing about the city that turned purple when Prince left us all too soon. Well, that was the great Minneapolis-St. Paul region that made the city shine purple where you could see it from 60 miles away. We take great pride in being the home to the pop legend. First Ave. is the home of this iconic artist and getting a picture with his star is on my to do list!

Many other “famous” people have also been formed from the Upper Midwest, including comedian Chris Farley, Bob Dylan, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and the great Judy Garland.
